When an injury occurs in a gym, fitness facility, park, or recreational environment, the central question is almost always the same: Did the facility, manufacturer, or supervising party meet the accepted health, fitness, and safety standards of care? My role as an Expert Witness is to answer that question with clarity, objectivity, and decades of real-world, hands-on experience.

With over 30 years in the fitness industry—spanning ownership of a high-volume personal training center, leadership in education through organizations like National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), and adherence to established guidelines from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)—my work is grounded in the practical application of safety standards, not just theory. I have conducted hundreds of facility evaluations, overseen thousands of training sessions, and built programs where safety, supervision, and proper equipment use were non-negotiable.

In the legal arena, I provide comprehensive expert witness services for both plaintiff and defense. My evaluations extend across a wide range of environments: commercial gyms, boutique studios, school and municipal recreation programs, park and outdoor fitness areas, and equipment used in both supervised and unsupervised settings. Whether the case involves a piece of faulty equipment, improper supervision, negligent programming, or a failure in facility maintenance, I analyze each component through the lens of industry standards, foreseeability of risk, and duty of care.

A critical part of my work involves dissecting equipment design and manufacturing integrity. Not all fitness equipment failures are obvious—some are rooted in flawed engineering, improper assembly, lack of maintenance, or inadequate warnings and instructions. I assess whether a product met reasonable safety expectations, whether proper testing and inspection protocols were followed, and whether the end user was placed in a preventable hazardous situation.

Equally important is human performance and supervision. In many cases, injuries are not caused by the equipment itself, but by how it is used. This includes improper instruction, lack of qualified supervision, excessive intensity without proper progression, or failure to recognize contraindications. Industry standards clearly define the need for qualified professionals, appropriate programming, and ongoing monitoring—especially in group training environments where risk can escalate quickly without oversight.

From a facility standpoint, I evaluate policies, procedures, and operational protocols. This includes reviewing maintenance logs, inspection records, staff training requirements, incident reports, and surveillance practices. A safe exercise environment does not happen by accident—it is the result of consistent, documented systems designed to identify and mitigate risk before an incident occurs. When those systems are absent, inconsistent, or ignored, the likelihood of injury increases significantly.

My approach is methodical and evidence-based. I provide detailed written reports, site inspections when necessary, and deposition and courtroom testimony that translates complex fitness and safety principles into clear, understandable language. I don’t rely on speculation—I rely on standards, experience, and the ability to connect the dots between what should have happened and what actually occurred.

Ultimately, my role is to bring truth and clarity to cases involving fitness, recreation, and human performance. Whether representing the plaintiff or the defense, my objective remains the same: to determine whether accepted health and fitness safety standards were upheld, and to present those findings with integrity, precision, and professional authority.

If your case involves a gym-related injury, equipment failure, recreational incident, or questions surrounding proper training and supervision, having an experienced Expert Witness who understands both the science and the real-world application of fitness safety standards is not just valuable—it is essential.
